She Walks In Beauty
By Lord Byron
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
When I started this blog it wasn’t with the intention of pimping my own work out. It was simply as a way of collecting all the deliciously dark wedding inspiration into one place. It is inevitable however that one or two Legend Bridal projects slip into the pages.
She walks in beauty was a much longed for creative outlet. And we know by the excitement of the businesses we got involved that a chance to get creative and deviate from the standard natural smokey eye and hand tied rose bouquet was like a breath of fresh air.
Our aim was to embrace the dark side so many of our brides love; to unleash our love for the mysterious and let loose with our love of black. We have always been drawn to the dark side, and more often than not find we end up curbing our ideas. We have found however, that more and more brides are contacting us asking for a darker aesthetic so we waited for the days to get shorter and nights to draw close so we could put our plans into action.
Here are the guys we worked with on this shoot:
Zo + Liam of ZT Photography
We have worked with Zo and Liam many times over the years. We love their cinematic style and creativity. Of all the shoots we’ve done together this was the first one indoors. No longer concerned with the disparaging effects of the elements Zo and Liam were free to compose images and contort our girls into all manner of otherwise disastrous poses (… can you imagine the levitation shot in the 30mph winds that were going on outside that day?
As an aside; if you are reading this as a Legend Bride then you really really need to see this competition Zo and Liam are running to WIN your WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY! That’s pretty amazing. Conditions apply and the competition closes on 30th April so follow the link…
Sonara Parker (MUA)
We’ve known of Sonara within wedding circles for a few years but we’ve only recently started to work together – which is crazy as we share so many of the same interests. There was very little discussion needed to work out what look we were going for. We knew we were on the same page and the dramatic yet soft looks she created are perfect. The bonkers reenactments in the sidelines were also hilarious.
Duncan Fisher – Hair Designer
Duncan is always a pleasure to work with and the soft romantic, slightly tousled looks he created for Chloe and Katy are beautiful and versatile. Each girl had 2 different headpieces and the transition between worked well with their styles. Duncan is always up for unleashing his creativity and although he subjected me to Christina Aguilera’s version of Beautiful People and had never heard of Marilyn Manson I can’t help but forgive him.
Kate and Lisa – Paragon Floral Design
This was the first time we’d worked with Lisa and Kate, but we knew after meeting them at the Great Northern Wedding show that these girls were creative geniuses and would craft spectacular one of a kind pieces (because bouquets just doesn’t do them justice!).
Just look at the boa! Seriously, how awesome! At first glance I was wondering how you hold it but OMG Katy just looks amazing with it draped around her in any number of ways. And did you see the ‘ball and chain’!?! How flipping creative is that? A ball of bay leaves delicately decorated with the most delicious smelling chocolate Cosmos! These girls are just inspiring.
As for the dresses – Legend Bridal
We created 4, very different and equally dramatic gowns; 2 softer with a darkly vintage feel and 2 edgier, rockier dresses. It was important for us to show that black wedding dresses can be as varied as Ivory and equally as elegant and beautiful. Our vintage feel dresses were created using flowing chiffon, delicate lace, frothy tulle and intricate beading. Our edgier gowns combined corsets and more princess silhouettes with spikes and crystals, chains and high-low hems.
And our models: Chloe and Katy
You girls require a special mention. I know you say you enjoy being part of these things; that it’s a pleasure to have your hair and make up done and wear pretty dresses, but truly, you girls ROCK! to lie on stone cold floors, balance on one butt cheek while looking calm and serene, contort yourself while we dance around you trying to perfect the levitation shot and to keep steady with burning candles threatening to drop on everything… well that’s dedication!
