Wedding Inspiration for the dark soul…
There are some great wedding blogs out there, beautifully manicured pictures of what the perfect wedding day is expected to be. There are also some amazing blogs that promote alternative ways of doing things; that throw brightly coloured confetti in the faces of the big bridal fashion houses. But what if your vision of the perfect wedding has a darker aesthetic? What if the thought of wearing ivory brings you out in cold sweats and you would really like to wear black, get married in a ruin, and have an Edgar Allen Poe theme?
For those of you who dream of a glamourous Gothic wedding the reality is that you are categorised as Halloween and your tastes trivialised as fancy dress or too macabre for general consumption. Your wedding is only allowed out in the final week of October and your wedding suppliers apparently don’t exist.
You wish to incorporate skulls into your wedding décor? – How incredibly morbid!
Well we’re here to tell you that isn’t true. Your wedding will not be dismal and your muddy toned colour pallet will be delicious. We are here to celebrate the weddings that happen in the shadows, the suppliers with a penchant for the mysterious and the couples who feel free to express themselves in all their dark glory.
Behind the Dark Veil
I’m Charlotte, happily married, dyed in the wool, thirty something Goth. Full time bespoke dressmaker and now blogger.
I have been a Goth FOREVER. Seriously as long as I can remember. Before I knew what Goth was, I was one. I have always found beauty in the darker things and have been fortunate that I have been able to express myself throughout my adult life. I am however frustrated that even now there is a general misconception about what Goth is and am continually surprised that even the most alternative wedding blogs and inspiration sites are fearful of sharing Goth weddings outside of the 2 week Halloween window.
Where do you go for inspiration? How do you find suppliers who share your aesthetics and understand what you’re looking for when they aren’t given a voice or able to show you what they can do?
Here is that space. I want to welcome all couples searching for inspiration and all suppliers desperate to let their dark side out.
